I Had Cable TV (or Antenna Only) Before and I just can't understand This Stuff
Please see the below Diagram. This really spells out the main difference. Just pretend our Set top box is
your VCR to help you understand the functions of it.
VCR Recording Tips
If you want to program your VCR to record when you are not around, do so by time slot, always on channel 3, then
use the "Schedule Automatic Tune" to ensure the proper show gets recorded. For example, you will be away from home
Thursday night at 9pm, but want to record CSI on channel 2 (KDKA). First thing to do is to set your VCR to record
CHANNEL 3, (Not 2) on Thursday Night at 9pm. Be sure your VCR is set to the correct time (this includes AM and PM)
and Date also. Now, once your VCR is all set up, find CSI on your Guide on Thursday night at 9PM.
You can use the day> button if it is
a few days ahead. Push the Select button, but rather than tuning in, go to "Actions". Find the "Schedule Automatic
Tune" function and select it. Now follow the on-screen instrucitons, and Thursday Night at 9pm, whether your TV is on
or not, our box will tune to Channel 2 (KDKA). The Set-top box always has a video output, it doesn't matter if your TV
is on or not.
Technical Mumbo-Jumbo - Chain of Order Of Events:
Your TV is off so our box is broadcasting channel 1 out. Your VCR Kicks on at 9PM and starts to record channel 3 (Stream 1).
At the same time (If your clocks are syncronized) your set-top box will Automatically tune to channel 2 (KDKA), thus being
output on channel 3 to your VCR.

Why does Venus TV have 3 NBC's, but only 1 CBS and 1 ABC Station?
The answer is simple - These are the local channels that we are able to pick up from air wave transmissions.
Our "Antenna" customers were able to pick up 3 NBCs before switching to Dish Networks, Direct TV, or Cable, or Venus.
Just ask anyone in this area who has a good working roof top antenna. These are the channels we get around here.
Dish and Direct TV only offer one NBC and one FOX because they offer people in this area the "Pittsburgh DMA", or
Pittsburgh Designated Market Area. With Dish and Direct, you only get Pittsburgh stations as locals. If you have
cable TV and are used to getting other ABC's and CBS's, that is becasue their head end isn't located here in the Venus Area.
Our head-end is right here at the phone company in Venus, PA. Our NBC's come from Pittsburgh, Erie, and Altoona.
Our FOX's come from Pittsburgh and Altoona. Our PBS's come from Pittsburgh and State College.
Want to place an ad on Channel 1? Contact Tim Keister via email and you
can discuss advertising options. Ads are $25.00 per month and air for about 10 seconds
once every 3 or 4 minutes. (Please ignore the spaces in the email address, they are there so
spammers can't harvest this email address from this website)

So, Your Remote Won't Change the Channels
Does your remote control turn your TV On and Off, but not change the channels? If yes,
chances are, you are on the wrong channel. If your TV is on Channel 3, try Channel 7.
If your TV is on Channel 7, try Channel 3. (When we say "your TV is on channel 3 or 7"
we mean the actual TV set, not Channel 3 on our system.) To check, walk up to your TV
Set and hit the Channel up or down on the front of the TV. DO NOT use any remote control
for this check process.
Also, be sure that your VCR is turned off, if there is one hooked up at this TV.
The manufacturer recomends a 2 inch space on all sides of the set-top box for proper ventilation. These set-top boxes
do get hot. We recommend that nothing be set on top of the box for this very reason. If something gets placed on top of
the set-top box, and it starts acting funny, like resetting itself, or excessive tiling, power down the box, (by unplugging it)
and let it cool down for 20 minutes or so, then plug it back in. If this doesn't help, contact our main office.
